Types of Dental Implants

Some of the types of dental implants include temporary, two-stage, and single-stage dental implants.

Temporary dental implant – A temporary dental implant at our Detroit practice is just that: temporary. While you are waiting to have your single-stage or two-stage implants crafted, you will be fitted with a temporary crown. The temporary crown will allow you to go about your daily routine until the permanent implant is ready to be fitted.
Two-stage dental implant – The two-stage dental implant requires two surgical procedures. The first procedure involves the securing of the implant in the jaw bone and then the suturing of the soft tissue over the implant. Over a period of time, the jaw will attach itself to the implant through a process called osseointegration. During the second procedure, Dr. DiLoreto will expose the head of the implant and secure the restoration in place.
Single-stage dental implant – The major advantage of the single-stage dental implant is that it allows you to avoid a second surgical procedure. A longer implant is used so that, once it is placed, the head of the implant will be exposed at the level of the soft tissue. As a result, there will be no need for a second surgery to expose the top of the dental implant.

Temporary implants are used for the short-term aesthetic restoration of one’s smile. This means that you can walk out of the dental office with a natural-looking smile while your permanent implant-supported restorations are being crafted. The next step is to decide between a single-stage or two-stage dental implant at our Detroit practice. Both types of implants have about the same success rate of around 98 percent, so the decision really comes down to which type you and Dr. DiLoreto find best suited to your case.
